Everyday we see patients that have missing teeth. Sometimes they are teeth that have been recently extracted. Other times they have been missing for years. Tooth loss can lead to reduced self confidence because of gaps in a person’s smile. Teeth are lost or missing for several reasons such as trauma, decay, periodontal disease, or even genetics. It is important to replace missing teeth because when a tooth is missing there is no contact with the opposing arch. This can cause opposing teeth to gradually extrude which leads to other problem, such as fractures, mobility, tooth loss, shifting in surrounding teeth, and gum problems. The 3 most common options are replacing the missing teeth with implants, crowns and bridges or dentures. Sometimes a combination of two of these options can be used, such as a denture that is supported by implants, or a bridge that is supported by implants. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, so whenever possible try to avoid loosing the tooth in the first place. The financial cost of saving a tooth with a crown or even a crown and a root canal is substantially less than the cost of an implant and crown or a bridge. Not to mention that by saving one tooth, you are also helping keep the surrounding ones healthy as well. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com

MOUTH SORES Dental health is not limited to your teeth. Sores or irritations can develop in and around the mouth. These sores can appear on any of the soft tissues of your mouth, including your lips, cheeks, gums, tongue, and floor and roof of your mouth. Fortunately, they usually heal on their own within a week or two. MOUTH SORES come in several different varieties and can have any number of causes, including: • Infections from bacteria, viruses or fungus • Irritation from a loose orthodontic wire, a denture that doesn’t fit, or a sharp edge from a broken tooth or filling. • The symptom of a disease or disorder. Your dentist should examine any mouth sore that lasts a week or longer. |Dental Clinic In Vadodara| Dental Implants Vadodara| |Best Dentist In Vadodara| www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
GUMMY SMILE When you smile, do you feel the appearance of your upper teeth is overshadowed by excessive gum tissue? Are you of the opinion that your upper teeth appear too short compared to the amount of gingival tissue displayed when you smile? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, you may have a condition that is commonly called a “gummy smile” or excessive gingival display. The good news is that a GUMMY SMILE can be corrected through various treatment options. Causes • An excessive display of gum tissue in your upper jaw can result from the abnormal eruption of the teeth. Teeth covered by excessive gum tissue appear short, even though they may actually be the proper length. • The muscle that controls the movement of your upper lip could be hyperactive, causing your upper lip to rise up higher than normal. When this occurs, more of your gum tissue is exposed when you smile. An Esthetic Problem or Something More? The smile line or esthetic zone – the teeth that are showing when you are smiling – is determined by several factors, including: • The shape and size of your lips. • Your facial muscles. • The shape and size of your teeth. • Your gum tissue. Treatments Your dentist may refer you to a specialist, like a periodontist, orthodontist or an oral surgeon. Depending on the nature of your specific clinical condition, treatment could include one or more of the following: • Same-day laser treatments (in minor cases). • Surgical lip repositioning. • Orthodontics (braces) to move the teeth into more suitable positions. • Surgical Sculpting of the gingival tissues and bone to create healthier and more attractive looking gum contours. • Maxillofacial surgery to reposition the bone. #Dentist-In-Vadodara #Dental-Clinic-In-Vadodara #Dental-Implants-In-Vadodara #Best-Dentist-In-Vadodara www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
SMOKING AND TOBACCO You know smoking is bad for your health, so it should be no surprise that cigarettes and chewing tobacco are also harmful to your oral health. For one, tobacco products can cause bad breath, but that’s only the beginning. Other possible oral health impacts of SMOKING AND ALL TOBACCO products include: • stained teeth and tongue • dulled sense of taste and smell • slow healing after a tooth extraction or other surgery • difficulties in correcting cosmetic dental problems • gum disease • oral cancer Quitting is the only way to decrease your risk of these and other tobacco-related health problems. The addictive quality of nicotine, which is found in cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco, can make this especially difficult. That’s why it’s important to have a plan and a support network, people to help you stick to your plan. Write down your reasons for quitting. Exercising, chewing gum and keeping yourself occupied can help you quit. Talk to your dentist to see if the medications available would help you to stop using tobacco. |Dental Clinic In Vadodara| |Dental Implants Vadodara| |Best Dentist In Vadodara| www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
