To prevent cavities and maintain good oral health, your diet -- what you eat and how often you eat -- are important factors. Changes in your mouth start the minute you eat certain foods. Bacteria in the mouth convert sugars and carbohydrates from the foods you eat to acids, and it's the acids that begin to attack the enamel on teeth, starting the decay process. The more often you eat and snack, the more frequently you are exposing your teeth to the cycle of decay. The best food choices for the health of your mouth include cheeses, chicken or other meats, nuts, and milk. These foods are thought to protect tooth enamel by providing the calcium and phosphorus needed to re-mineralize teeth (a natural process by which minerals are re-deposited in tooth enamel after being removed by acids). For those people that are lactose intolerant and cannot ingest milk products, green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach are high in calcium. Other food choices include firm/crunchy fruits (for example, apples and pears) and vegetables. These foods have a high water content, which dilutes the effects of the sugars they contain, and stimulate the flow of saliva (which helps protect against decay by washing away food particles and buffering acid). Acidic foods, such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and lemons, should be eaten as part of a larger meal to minimize the acid from them. Poor food choices include candy -- such as lollipops, hard candies, and mints -- cookies, cakes, pies, breads, muffins, potato chips, pretzels, french fries, bananas, raisins, and other dried fruits. These foods contain large amounts of sugar and/or can stick to teeth, providing a fuel source for bacteria. In addition, cough drops should be used only when necessary as they, like sugary candy, contribute to tooth decay. The best beverage choices include water (especially fluoridated water), milk, and unsweetened tea. Limit your consumption of sugar-containing drinks, including soft drinks, lemonade, and coffee or tea with added sugar. Also, avoid day-long sipping of sugar-containing drinks -- day-long sipping exposes your teeth to constant sugar and, in turn, constant decay-causing acids. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
Everyday we see patients that have missing teeth. Sometimes they are teeth that have been recently extracted. Other times they have been missing for years. Tooth loss can lead to reduced self confidence because of gaps in a person’s smile. Teeth are lost or missing for several reasons such as trauma, decay, periodontal disease, or even genetics. It is important to replace missing teeth because when a tooth is missing there is no contact with the opposing arch. This can cause opposing teeth to gradually extrude which leads to other problem, such as fractures, mobility, tooth loss, shifting in surrounding teeth, and gum problems. The 3 most common options are replacing the missing teeth with implants, crowns and bridges or dentures. Sometimes a combination of two of these options can be used, such as a denture that is supported by implants, or a bridge that is supported by implants. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, so whenever possible try to avoid loosing the tooth in the first place. The financial cost of saving a tooth with a crown or even a crown and a root canal is substantially less than the cost of an implant and crown or a bridge. Not to mention that by saving one tooth, you are also helping keep the surrounding ones healthy as well. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CROWN AND ONLAY CROWNS and ONLAYS are different ways to replace missing or broken tooth structure. How a dentist chooses between which restoration depends on how many teeth you are trying to replace. An ONLAY covers only portion of a tooth, and removes minimal tooth structure. Onlays are generally a more conservative approach. The ceramic onlay fits similarly to a puzzle piece and can blend in so well that often times you can't see where the tooth starts and the onlay stops. They are often used as alternatives to large fillings. When a white filling it too large, it often fails after a few years due to the tooth breaking down or a cavity. The white fillings are simply not as strong as ceramic and gold. A CROWN requires that the tooth is trimmed down and covered completely to the gum line. Both onlays and crowns can be made from ceramic or gold. The benefit of the ceramic onlay is the ability to match your tooth color. In areas where the material cannot be seen gold is a great choice because gold fits the closest against the tooth and it is extremely strong. Studies have shown that a gold onlays and crowns have lasted for 50 years! Onlays and crowns are made the same way. The dentist prepares the tooth, takes an impression, sends it to the lab to fabricated, and the tooth is cemented in at the following appointment. Onlays and crowns are important ways dentists can help save and preserve your teeth. |Dental Clinic In Vadodara| |Dental Implants Vadodara| |Best Dentist In Vadodara| www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
SMOKING AND TOBACCO You know smoking is bad for your health, so it should be no surprise that cigarettes and chewing tobacco are also harmful to your oral health. For one, tobacco products can cause bad breath, but that’s only the beginning. Other possible oral health impacts of SMOKING AND ALL TOBACCO products include: • stained teeth and tongue • dulled sense of taste and smell • slow healing after a tooth extraction or other surgery • difficulties in correcting cosmetic dental problems • gum disease • oral cancer Quitting is the only way to decrease your risk of these and other tobacco-related health problems. The addictive quality of nicotine, which is found in cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco, can make this especially difficult. That’s why it’s important to have a plan and a support network, people to help you stick to your plan. Write down your reasons for quitting. Exercising, chewing gum and keeping yourself occupied can help you quit. Talk to your dentist to see if the medications available would help you to stop using tobacco. |Dental Clinic In Vadodara| |Dental Implants Vadodara| |Best Dentist In Vadodara| www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
BRIDGE If you’re missing one or more teeth, you may notice a difference in chewing and speaking. BRIDGES can help restore your smile. Sometimes called a fixed partial denture, a bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth and literally “bridges” the gap where one or more teeth used to be. Bridges can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination of these materials and are attached to surrounding teeth for support. Unlike a removable bridge, which you can take out and clean, a fixed bridge can only be removed by a dentist. An implant bridge attaches artificial teeth directly to the jaw or under the gum tissue. Depending on which type of bridge your dentist recommends, its success depends on the foundation. So it’s very important to keep your remaining teeth healthy and strong. #Dentist-In-Vadodara #Dental-Clinic-In-Vadodara #Dental-Implants-In-Vadodara #Best-Dentist-In-Vadodara www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com

GUM DISEASE Gingivitis is the early stage of GUM DIEASE. Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround your teeth, and is caused by a buildup of plaque. In its early stages, symptoms may include: • Gums that bleed easily • Red, swollen, tender gums • Bad breath Some factors that can put you at higher risk of developing gingivitis include: • Poor dental care • Smoking or chewing tobacco • Genetics • Crooked teeth that are hard to keep clean • Diabetes • Medications, including steroids, certain types of anti-epilepsy drugs, cancer therapy drugs, some calcium channel blockers and oral contraceptives This might sound scary, but at this stage the disease is still reversible. Eliminating the infection can be as easy as trip to the dentist office for a professional cleaning, as well as daily brushing and flossing. Because gum disease is usually painless, you may not know you have it. This is why it’s important to schedule regular dental checkups in addition to maintaining a good dental routine of brushing and flossing. |Dental Clinic In Vadodara| |Dental Implants Vadodara| |Best Dentist In Vadodara| www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
