DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CROWN AND ONLAY CROWNS and ONLAYS are different ways to replace missing or broken tooth structure. How a dentist chooses between which restoration depends on how many teeth you are trying to replace. An ONLAY covers only portion of a tooth, and removes minimal tooth structure. Onlays are generally a more conservative approach. The ceramic onlay fits similarly to a puzzle piece and can blend in so well that often times you can't see where the tooth starts and the onlay stops. They are often used as alternatives to large fillings. When a white filling it too large, it often fails after a few years due to the tooth breaking down or a cavity. The white fillings are simply not as strong as ceramic and gold. A CROWN requires that the tooth is trimmed down and covered completely to the gum line. Both onlays and crowns can be made from ceramic or gold. The benefit of the ceramic onlay is the ability to match your tooth color. In areas where the material cannot be seen gold is a great choice because gold fits the closest against the tooth and it is extremely strong. Studies have shown that a gold onlays and crowns have lasted for 50 years! Onlays and crowns are made the same way. The dentist prepares the tooth, takes an impression, sends it to the lab to fabricated, and the tooth is cemented in at the following appointment. Onlays and crowns are important ways dentists can help save and preserve your teeth. |Dental Clinic In Vadodara| |Dental Implants Vadodara| |Best Dentist In Vadodara| www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
How to Brush Teeth By now, brushing your teeth is second nature. And that's a good thing because one of the best ways to avoid a host of dental diseases and complications is to brush your teeth at least twice a day. But for tooth brushing to be truly effective, you have to know how to brush properly. Tooth Brushing Made Easy For truly clean teeth, dentists recommend that you brush for at least two minutes -- not 15 or 30 seconds -- two whole minutes. An easy way to make sure you're brushing long enough is to buy an electric toothbrush with a built-in timer. Tips on how to brush properly: - Use short, back-and-forth and up-and-down strokes. - Pay special attention to your gum line, back teeth and areas around any tooth filling or restoration you might have. - Clean the inner and outer surfaces of your upper teeth first, and then clean your lower teeth. - Brush or scrape your tongue to help prevent bad breath. Don't forget to floss! Brushing and flossing is like peanut butter and jelly -- when you think of one you can't help but think of the other. Electric Toothbrush or Manual Toothbrush? While there is evidence that certain electric toothbrushes may be more effective in the removal of dental plaque and dental tartar, some dentists will tell you that the difference is nominal. However, both children and adults have said that electric toothbrushes make it more fun to brush and that they brush more often, and longer, as a result. According to Us, choosing a toothbrush should also include these best practices: Be selective about size, shape and bristles . Soft bristles are a must. The size and shape of your toothbrush should allow for easy access to each tooth. Replace your toothbrush often. Brushing your teeth with an old toothbrush is like washing with a dirty rag -- it's neither effective nor hygienic. Be sure to buy a new toothbrush every 3-4 months for optimum results. How Much Does Toothpaste Matter? There are many brands of toothpaste that claim to whiten teeth, remove dental plaque or improve your breath. But none of these results can be achieved if you only brush for 30 seconds. On the other hand, any toothpaste should work if you're brushing the way you should. Just keep in mind that it's not necessarily the type of toothpaste that can prevent cavities, dental tartar, bad breath and tooth discoloration; it's the user wielding the toothbrush. Don’t Disregard Dental Visits Brushing your teeth is an essential part of your daily regimen, but remember that regular dental visits are crucial to the overall health of your teeth. By visiting your dentist twice a year for checkups and dental cleanings, and learning how to brush and floss properly, you're bound to enjoy a healthy, beautiful smile for a lifetime! To prevent cavities and maintain good oral health, your diet -- what you eat and how often you eat -- are important factors. Changes in your mouth start the minute you eat certain foods. Bacteria in the mouth convert sugars and carbohydrates from the foods you eat to acids, and it's the acids that begin to attack the enamel on teeth, starting the decay process. The more often you eat and snack, the more frequently you are exposing your teeth to the cycle of decay. The best food choices for the health of your mouth include cheeses, chicken or other meats, nuts, and milk. These foods are thought to protect tooth enamel by providing the calcium and phosphorus needed to re-mineralize teeth (a natural process by which minerals are re-deposited in tooth enamel after being removed by acids). For those people that are lactose intolerant and cannot ingest milk products, green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach are high in calcium. Other food choices include firm/crunchy fruits (for example, apples and pears) and vegetables. These foods have a high water content, which dilutes the effects of the sugars they contain, and stimulate the flow of saliva (which helps protect against decay by washing away food particles and buffering acid). Acidic foods, such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and lemons, should be eaten as part of a larger meal to minimize the acid from them. Poor food choices include candy -- such as lollipops, hard candies, and mints -- cookies, cakes, pies, breads, muffins, potato chips, pretzels, french fries, bananas, raisins, and other dried fruits. These foods contain large amounts of sugar and/or can stick to teeth, providing a fuel source for bacteria. In addition, cough drops should be used only when necessary as they, like sugary candy, contribute to tooth decay. The best beverage choices include water (especially fluoridated water), milk, and unsweetened tea. Limit your consumption of sugar-containing drinks, including soft drinks, lemonade, and coffee or tea with added sugar. Also, avoid day-long sipping of sugar-containing drinks -- day-long sipping exposes your teeth to constant sugar and, in turn, constant decay-causing acids. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
Everyday we see patients that have missing teeth. Sometimes they are teeth that have been recently extracted. Other times they have been missing for years. Tooth loss can lead to reduced self confidence because of gaps in a person’s smile. Teeth are lost or missing for several reasons such as trauma, decay, periodontal disease, or even genetics. It is important to replace missing teeth because when a tooth is missing there is no contact with the opposing arch. This can cause opposing teeth to gradually extrude which leads to other problem, such as fractures, mobility, tooth loss, shifting in surrounding teeth, and gum problems. The 3 most common options are replacing the missing teeth with implants, crowns and bridges or dentures. Sometimes a combination of two of these options can be used, such as a denture that is supported by implants, or a bridge that is supported by implants. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, so whenever possible try to avoid loosing the tooth in the first place. The financial cost of saving a tooth with a crown or even a crown and a root canal is substantially less than the cost of an implant and crown or a bridge. Not to mention that by saving one tooth, you are also helping keep the surrounding ones healthy as well. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
ORAL HEALTH ORAL HEALTH touches every aspect of our lives but is often taken for granted. Your mouth is a window into the health of your body. It can show signs of nutritional deficiencies or general infection. Systemic diseases, those that affect the entire body, may first become apparent because of mouth lesions or other oral problems. Whether you are 80 or 8, your oral health is important. Many people believe that they need to see a dentist only if they are in pain or think something is wrong, but regular dental visits can contribute to a lifetime of good oral health. If you are experiencing dental pain, don't put off seeing a dentist. With dentistry's many advances, diagnosis and treatment are more sophisticated and comfortable than ever. You can practice good oral hygiene by always brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between your teeth once a day with floss or another interdental cleaner, replacing your toothbrush every three or four months and by eating a balanced diet and limiting between-meal snacks. Don't forget to schedule regular dental check-ups to keep your smile, and yourself, healthy. |Dental Clinic In Vadodara| |Dental Implants Vadodara| |Best Dentist In Vadodara| www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
