A dental implant (also known as an endosseous implant or fixture) is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration, in which materials such as titanium form an intimate bond to bone. The implant fixture is first placed so that it is likely to osseointegrate, then a dental prosthetic is added. A variable amount of healing time is required for osseointegration before either the dental prosthetic (a tooth, bridge or denture) is attached to the implant or an abutment is placed which will hold a dental prosthetic. Success or failure of implants depends on the health of the person receiving the treatment, drugs which affect the chances of osseointegration, and the health of the tissues in the mouth. The amount of stress that will be put on the implant and fixture during normal function is also evaluated. Planning the position and number of implants is key to the long-term health of the prosthetic since biomechanical forces created during chewingcan be significant. The position of implants is determined by the position and angle of adjacent teeth, by lab simulations or by using computed tomography with CAD/CAM simulations and surgical guides called stents. The prerequisites for long-term success of osseointegrated dental implants are healthy boneand gingiva. Since both can atrophy after tooth extraction, pre-prosthetic procedures such as sinus lifts or gingival grafts are sometimes required to recreate ideal bone and gingiva. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com

Everyday we see patients that have missing teeth. Sometimes they are teeth that have been recently extracted. Other times they have been missing for years. Tooth loss can lead to reduced self confidence because of gaps in a person’s smile. Teeth are lost or missing for several reasons such as trauma, decay, periodontal disease, or even genetics. It is important to replace missing teeth because when a tooth is missing there is no contact with the opposing arch. This can cause opposing teeth to gradually extrude which leads to other problem, such as fractures, mobility, tooth loss, shifting in surrounding teeth, and gum problems. The 3 most common options are replacing the missing teeth with implants, crowns and bridges or dentures. Sometimes a combination of two of these options can be used, such as a denture that is supported by implants, or a bridge that is supported by implants. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, so whenever possible try to avoid loosing the tooth in the first place. The financial cost of saving a tooth with a crown or even a crown and a root canal is substantially less than the cost of an implant and crown or a bridge. Not to mention that by saving one tooth, you are also helping keep the surrounding ones healthy as well. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com

https://youtu.be/sPelo35_IWM Who is a prosthodontist? "A pro... pro...prostho.......what????"   Very few people know what a prosthodontist is, but most people will have a dental problem that could warrant a visit to one at some point in their lives.    Prosthodontists are dental specialists who focus on the repair and replacement of damaged teeth and oral structures. Replacement can be a removable denture or fixed bridge or in form of dental implant fixed teeth...   After the completion of dental graduation (B.D.S.), Prosthodontists spend another 3 entire years in a university or hospital setting, learning the history and evidence behind complex dentistry, performing research, and taking care of patients that need very challenging dental care. This is thousands of hours of very structured continuing education for complex restorative cases in a Dental Council registered Dental School or College... It is a lot of work to earn the title of "Certified Specialist" as Prosthodontist and Implantologist....and that is why there are so few of us! Prosthodontists treat patients that need anything from simple fillings and cleanings, all the way to full mouth reconstructions, cosmetic dentistry, and implant dentistry, and have focused their educations and built their practices to offer these kind of treatments. When to visit a Prosthodontist??? Simple answer... Whenever there is need for replacement in your head and neck region; be it your broken or carious/decayed tooth/teeth, extracted tooth/teeth which needs replacement (denture, fixed bridge or dental implants) or any other part including eye, ear and nose...  Visit your Prosthodontist today!!! Most people probably grind and clench their teeth from time to time. Occasional teeth grinding and clenching, medically called bruxism, does not usually cause harm, but when teeth grinding and clenching occurs on a regular basis the teeth can be damaged and other oral health complications can arise. Teeth grinding can create numerous problems such as local muscular pain, headaches, loss of tooth structure, gum recession, loose teeth, and shortening of teeth, tooth sensitivity, cracked and broken teeth, and damage to the bone structure of the jaw joint. In addition to relieving pain, treating bruxism and clenching is cost effective compared to ignoring the condition and exposing teeth to continued grinding. Without treatment, crowns , bridges, implants and dentures are often needed to repair or replace damaged teeth. Ask your dentist if a night guard can help to provide temporary relief from grinding or clenching. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com

Overdentures offer a variety of advantages as compared to conventional dentures. While some of these advantages are purely cosmetic, all of these can affect your quality of life, making you happier and healthier. Implant-retained overdentures can also even improve your dietary health by putting more nutritious foods back on the menu. With implant retained overdentures, you can chew your food more completely which aids in digestion. This increases the nutrients your body is able to absorb. An implant-retained overdenture can help stop the deterioration of your natural facial contours. Keeping this bone alive and stimulated is the only way to halt the resorption (shrinkage) that naturally occurs in areas where your natural teeth have been lost. In addition, because the overdenture is secured with implants you will not have to worry about embarrassing dislodgment. Implant-retained overdentures secure your teeth in your mouth and can reduce or eliminate movement, improve the aesthetics of your smile, improve chewing functions, improve speech and have a positive impact on your physical and psychological health. www.upadhyaydentalvadodara.com
